Exercise Induced Exertional
Compartment Syndrome of the Leg
Exercise induced exertional compartment syndrome of the leg is a condition in which the pressure in the muscle compartments of the leg becomes elevated, resulting in the sensation of pressure, pain, and sometimes foot numbness with activity. Retraining running mechanics and activity modification can sometimes yield relief of symptoms, although other causes should be ruled out. Persitent symptoms can benefit from surgical release of the compartments. Dr. Owens performs this release with a minimally invasive technique.
