Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) Tear

isolated injuries, or occur in conjunction with ACL injuries. Usually, these can be managed non-surgically, but do require surgical repair or reconstruction in cases
of persistent instability or concomitant injury.

MCL INJURIES ARE COMMON IN YOUNG ATHLETES
This epidemiologic study of young athletes with isolated MCL tears found the highest rates of injury of the sports of wrestling and hockey. Male athletes had higher injury rates than women, although this may be reflective of collision sports in males. Grade 1 injuries were out of sport for 2 weeks on average while higher grade injuries required an average of 23 days.
